about

the Fake Fictions were a band from 2004-2009 and recorded 3 albums and 4 EPs in that time. this is a collection of one-offs, rarities, demos, and live tracks, carefully selected to make us sound as competent as possible. the fidelity is low and the mastering is non-existent.
tracks 1-6 comprise the demos we made before recording the album Krakatoa to try and get a label to pay for the album. this was unsuccessful. note the mid-tempo version of Esperanto, which was how we played it before we got frustrated during the recording of Krakatoa and sped it up
tracks 7-8 were recorded live at South Union Arts (RIP) by Nick on 4-track. i remember the sound guy not being particularly happy with me for setting up my own recording junk and mics around his own gear. we are definitely covering the Nerves' version of "Hangin' on the Telephone," NOT Blondie's
track 9 is our version of "Crawl Back" by Richard Thompson, one of our few cover songs that we actually recorded
track 10 is a late Fake Fictions song that we never recorded, possibly because it never had a real ending other than segueing into Satisfaction or possibly because the lyrics are embarrassing. "The Complicated Jerk" is a pretty awesome song name though
track 11 is a cell-phone recording of us practicing "Into the Woods" that we sweetened up with keyboards and extra vocals at home. no one likes it but Nick but he LOVES it
track 12-13 are from a session we did for WNUR that was pretty hectic and involved lots of broken gear and tuning and false starts, but hey these two songs turned out pretty good
track 14 is a slow-burn version of "Just Desserts" live at the Hideout, a really great venue
